A 30-year-old barrel of The Macallan has set a new record for a cask of whisky at auction.
The barrel contains just under 300 bottles of whisky
It realised $375,000 in Hong Kong, a big increase on the previous record of $245,000 set at Spink in 2014.
The libation is matured in a sherry cask.
Auctioneer Angie Ihlo Fung told industry journal the Drinks Business: “It is very rare to see an aged Macallan Sherry cask, never before has anything like that been offered to the public, as after all – it is a rather small barrel yielding less than 300 bottles”.
