China 1897 (March) Large figure surcharges, spaced on 2.5mm, on Dowager Empress (2nd printing), set of 9 to 30c on 24ca deep rose red in blocks of 4, some including 10c on 12c and 30c on 24a with sheet margin, SG57/65.
A few light gum tones, however generally fresh and the 30c on 24a is particularly fine. All stamps with large part to full original gum.
A rare set in multiples.
A quite extraordinary set of multiples of one of the most popular issues from the Chinese Empire and hardly ever found in such fine mint condition.
The Dowager Empress stamps were the very first commemorative stamps issued by China to celebrate the 60th Birthday of the Dowager Empress, one of the most powerful women in the history of China.
