Description

A rare signature from the Hollywood star who never signed autographs

  • A bank cheque signed by the legendary Hollywood actress Greta Garbo
  • Featuring a highly rare and sought-after full version of her signature

A bank cheque signed by Greta Garbo and dated November 18, 1967.

Issued from Garbo's personal account at the Chase Manhattan Bank, for the value of $66.63.

Featuring an exceptional example of Garbo's signature, signed crisply in bold green ink.

The cheque features the usual cancellation holes and stamps, and is in very good condition.

It's made out to Gristede Brothers, a renowned New York grocery store close to her apartment on the Upper East side, where she could occasionally be spotted shopping.

Also included is a Chase Manhattan Bank deposit slip for Garbo's personal account, dated July 2, 1969 and annotated in blue ink.

Greta Garbo famously shunned publicity during her career, refusing to give interviews, attend premieres, answer any fan mail or sign autographs.

And following her retirement in 1941, at the age of just 36, she became a reclusive figure who lived alone in Manhattan for almost 50 years.

Today her autograph is considered a trophy by collectors due to its extreme rarity.
