Description

  • An original 1951 Marilyn Monroe signed publiity photograph
  • In the most desirable glossy 10" by 8" format
  • With superb provenance, presented to Hollywood costume designer Renié

A vintage glossy 10” by 8" black and white full length portrait of Marilyn Monroe.

The photo is a rare original costume test shot for the 1951 romantic comedy Love Nest, in which Monroe played the supporting role of Roberta.

Monroe is photographed wearing a black cocktail dress, which she later wore in the final scene of the film.

Next to her is a studio blackboard titled “Marilyn Monroe as Roberta”, which also includes the text “Party – end of picture”, the date April 5, 1951 and the name Renié.

Monroe has signed and inscribed the photo in green fountain pen ink “To Renie – someone with feelings, I'm more grateful than words can ever express, love and thanks, Marilyn.”

It was a gift from Monroe to the film's costume designer Renié Conley (1901 – 1992).

Conley was a five-time Academy Award nominee who won the 1963 Oscar for her famous costumes in the epic Cleopatra. She worked with Monroe on three films for 20th Century Fox in 1951: As Young as You Feel, Love Nest, and Let's Make It Legal.

The photo is in fine condition, with a few scattered light surface marks and minor creases, and a tiny tear to the bottom corner.

This is a simply stunning Marilyn Monroe signed photo in the most desirable glossy 10" by 8" format.

A major highlight for any classic Hollywood collection.
