- A Queen Victoria signed military document dated January 30, 1885.
- With an interesting connection to Hollywood Rat Pack member Peter Lawford.
Queen Victoria (1819 – 1901) is one of history's longest-serving monarchs, whose 63-year reign as Queen of the United Kingdom and Ireland is known as the Victorian Era.
The partially printed document measures 15.25 x 11.25 inches and is in fine condition, with light toning and faint staining.
Clearly signed “Victoria R” in the top left-hand corner.
Matted and framed in a handsome display to an overall size of 21.75 x 17.75.
The military document appoints Sydney Turing Barlow Lawford "to be an Officer in Our Land Forces from the Seventh day of February 1885."
Lawford (1865–1953) was a decorated British general known by the military nickname 'Swanky Syd'. This document is his commission to become a lieutenant in the 7th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment).
He later commanded troops in the Second Boer War in South Africa, on the estern Front during WWI, and was promoted to the rank of Major General of the 41st Division.
He was also the father of Peter Lawford (1923 - 1984), the Hollywood actor, member of the Rat Pack, and brother-in-law of US president John F. Kennedy and senator Robert F. Kennedy.
A nice Queen Victoria signature, superbly presented and with an interesting connection to Hollywood and U.S political royalty.
