- An authentic strand of hair from Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-1587)
Mary Stuart, better known as Mary, Queen of Scots, ascended to the Scottish throne in 1542 following the sudden death of her father, James V.
As she was still a child she was sent to relative safety in France and lived there until her return to Scotland in 1561. In 1568, Mary was imprisoned by English queen Elizabeth I. She was beheaded in 1586 for plotting to assassinate Elizabeth.
Mystery enshrouds Mary Stuart. Historians still disagree on the extent of her involvement in the plot.
