A fine mounted mint example of this famous stamp rarity.
Just 200 examples were overprinted as franked correspondence carried by Lieutenant H. Hawker on his Atlantic flight. 18 were damaged and destroyed, 95 were used on letters, 11 given as presentation copies, and the remaining 76 surviving mint examples were sold in aid of the Marine Disasters Fund.
