Hong Kong British Post Offices in China 1912-15 $5 green and red/green (white back), neatly cancelled by part 'CHEFOO' circular date stamp, SGZ310.
A fine and commercially used example. Trace of soiling, but still fine for this very scarce usage and much better condition than normally seen.
Chefoo was opened to commercial trade in 1860. Although a consulate was established in 1863 no organised postal agency was provided until 1 January 1903 when one was opened on the premises of Curtis Brothers, a commercial firm.
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £600.
