North Borneo Labuan 1892 (Dec) 2c on 40c ochre, type 11 surcharge, block of 8 (4x2) with margins on three sides, being a complete sheet less the right hand pair (positions 5/10), SG49.
A brilliant mint positional block with part original gum. The upper row has backing adhesion, but three of the stamps are unmounted mint. Exceptional colour and most attractive.
A very rare multiple as only 1,300 (= 130 sheets) were originally printed.
Stanley Gibbons catalogue value: £1,360+.
The design of these Queen Victoria head stamps are unique because of the incorporation of Arabic manuscript in Malay language, Chinese and English.
