A superb unmounted mint example with full original gum lettered OB, overprinted "SPECIMEN" type 11.
Very rarely seen in fine condition and this is the finest we have ever handled.
"SPECIMEN" examples were used solely by postal administrations for reference purposes to help spot any attempted forgeries. The £1 green replaced the £1 brown-lilac because of concerns about a photographic forgery of the £1 brown-lilac.
