- A superb full set of 1964 Rolling Stones signatures (Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richard, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts) on a hotel postcard.
The Rolling Stones are the world’s biggest band and have defined the image of the “rock star”. They have enjoyed eight UK #1s and continue to sell out tours around the world.
The five Stones all signed the postcard at Liverpool's prestigious Adelphi Hotel in 1964. This was the year the Stones broke through, enjoying their first #1 in July of that year with It’s All Over Now.
The signatures were acquired by the present owner's mother, who worked as a receptionist at the Adelphi from the mid 1950s until late 1964.
She almost certainly acquired the signatures when the Stones played two concerts at Liverpool's Empire Theatre on September 13. The Stones are known to have stayed at the Adelphi on this occasion.
The owner's letter of provenance reads, in part:
"Our mother came over from Ireland in the mid 1950s to continue her hospitality training at the exclusive Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool.
"The clientele included all the big stars of the day.
"The girls on reception were expressly banned from troubling the stars for their signatures but Mum succumbed for her favourites, the Rolling Stones.
"Our mother left the Adelphi Hotel in late 1964 so we know this set predates that."
Finding all five original members’ signatures together is a rare feat – especially of this high quality.
The signatures include a dedication to a family member (Anthony).
