Great Britain 1865 1d carmine-rose “Royal reprint” Plate 66, SGDP35b.
A very fine unused, with original gum, block of four lettered 'FJ-GK'.
A very scarce multiple of the so called "Royal reprints".
In September 1865, plate proof impressions were taken from the 1d plate 66, Die II, after the stamp had been withdrawn from use. All prints were imperforate on Large Crown watermarked paper.
This special unissued printing in September 1865 was requested by young members of the Royal Family for examples of the 1d black and 1d red. The full background behind this exclusive issue remains a philatelic mystery.
GB Specialised catalogue no: DP35b.
