Great Britain 1872 2s die proof, SG118var.
A very fine example printed in black on white glazed card (92 x 61mm), endorsed "BEFORE HARDENING" and dated "Dec 19, 1872".
The die was produced for the proposed 2s stamp with coloured corner letters that was subsequently abandoned as this value was withdrawn.
The circles for the plate numbers are in the centre of the design and the letters of the value and "POSTAGE" are of different shape from the issued stamp.
A very scarce Queen Victorian specialist philatelic piece.
