Papua 1907 (May-June) 2s6d black and brown, SG45.
Printed on thick paper, watermark vertical (line perforated), type 4 small ‘Papua' overprint (at Brisbane).
A fine used example with part Samarai circular date stamp.
A key visually appealing British Empire rarity featuring the Lakatoi (trading canoe) with Hanuabada Village in the background.
A very rare stamp, much rarer than its SG catalogue value would indicate, and the first time we have enjoyed the experience of handling this fine stamp.
It is believed that only two sheets of this, the highest value denomination, were issued.
Accompanied with a Brandon certificate of authenticity (1976) as former SG38c.
