Rhodesia 1910-13 3d purple and ochre (RSC "I"), perforations 14x15, with lovely colours, centrally cancelled by upright BULAWAYO/RHODESIA circular date stamp, dated "25 JAN 13", SG180.
A fine used example with a particularly attractive circular date stamp. There are a few shortish perforations at the foot of the stamp, but it is still far above average for this scarce stamp.
A very attractive stamp issue featuring Queen Mary and King George V.
Accompanied with a Brandon certificate of authenticity (1982).
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £300.
Rhodesia, named after Cecil Rhodes, the founder of the British South Africa Company, joined the South African Postal Union on 1 August 1892. At this point, its stamps became valid for international mail. The stamps issued throughout 1890-1923 are all inscribed "British South Africa Company".
