A superb unused bottom marginal example from the trial sheet of twelve with blank corner letters produced for application to postal notices informing postmasters of the forthcoming issue.
The small plate of 12 impressions was made because the first 2d plate of the new type "with white lines" was not ready and specimens were required for distribution with the announcement of the forthcoming issue. There were no letters in the lower corners. Printings were in full deep blue.
Scarce and of exquisite quality.
