Ascension 1946 Victory 2d and 4d, perforated 'SPECIMEN' (type D21), SG48s/9s.
Very fine and fresh mint examples with original gum. A few slightly shortish perforations, trivial to overall quality.
Accompanied with an Cruttenden expertisation opinion (2012).
The Victory stamps were issued in 1946 to celebrate the return to peace at the end of World War II. The designs feature a view of the Thames River in London, with a view of the Parliament buildings in the distance.
These "SPECIMEN" examples were used solely by postal administrations for reference purposes to help spot any attempted forgeries.
The Ascension specimens are generally considered to be the most difficult to find of all the colonial Victory specimens and are extremely scarce and sought after.
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £450.
