China Taiwan 1945 (Oct) ‘Numeral’ set of 3 to 10s pale blue, SGJ1/3.
A fine used set, each in a block of 4 cancelled-to-order used by native Taipei circular date stamps for 21.10 (3s and 5s) 31.10 (10s).
Fine examples of the first day usage, scarce as these were in use for only a few days before the reversion to Chinese rule. Quite exceptional as blocks of four.
From 1895 to 1945 Taiwan was part of the Japanese Empire and stamps of Japan were used there. From March 1945, operations of the US navy round Okinawa cut Taiwan off from Japan. Stamps were printed in Taipeh when supplies run short.
