Great Britain 1979 Rowland Hill Miniature Sheet error, SGMS1099e.
Very fine unmounted mint with full original gum example with bright blue omitted affecting the three lower values.
The missing colour results in the loss of shading along the edges of the miniature sheet. In addition, the ground of the 10p is affected; the postman's jacket, roofs in the background and a lady's dress are affected on the 11½p; and the postman's jacket and background are affected on the 13p.
A very rare and spectacular QEII error. Pierron records only 4 examples.
The miniature sheet was issued to commemorate the centenary of the death of Sir Rowland Hill, the founder of the prepaid postal system with the introduction of the penny black which was subsequently adopted throughout the world.
The premium on the sales of these miniature sheets was used to support funding of the London 1980 International Stamp Exhibition.
