Great Britain 1840 1d Mulready envelope Forme 1 Stereo A131, SGME2.
A very fine used example sent from Ramsgate to Harlow, neatly cancelled by a crisp red Maltese Cross.
Backstamped with a crisp Ramsgate circular date stamp for 'MY.07.1840.' and a London transit circular date stamp for the following day.
A most attractive Mulready envelope sent on the second day of official use, which opens up perfectly for display.
Scarce and undervalued in the new Stanley Gibbons GB Queen Victoria catalogue. There are believed to be only seven examples used on the 7th of May. This is the finest 7th of May Mulready cover we have ever handled.
Provenance: Ex "Mayflower" Grand Prix Collection. Featured on page 113 of "The Mulready Postal Stationery" book by Alan Huggins and Alan Holyoake published in 2015.
Accompanied with a 2010 British Philatelic Association (BPA) Certificate of Authenticity.
