Great Britain 1867 10d die proofs, SG112var.
Very fine cut to stamp size examples printed in dull pale blue, olive green and orange without corner letters or plate numbers, produced by De La Rue for the 1867 Paris Exhibition.
Very rare and, to the best of our knowledge, unique in private hands.
Stanley Gibbons catalogue value: £23,250.
The 10d value was introduced for prepayment of postage to India, Mauritius and Australia via Marseilles. The rate was changed in 1870 meaning there was little demand for the 10d stamp and it was withdrawn in 1877.
