Great Britain 1918 2s6d pale brown "Seahorses", SG415a var.
An exceptionally fine and fresh well centred unmounted mint, with full original gum, right hand corner marginal block of four printed by Bradbury Wilkinson, showing re-entry in position R. 1/4.
A scarce positional block with the re-entry.
A stunning showpiece of this most famous of GB King George V stamp issues.
GB Specialised Catalogue No: N65(5)c.
Stanley Gibbons catalogue value: £3,400+.
The re-entry is the result of wearing and damage to the printing plate resulting in a need to strengthen the worn or damaged images on the printing plate. This was achieved by realigning the transfer roll with each worn position and re-entering the design by rocking the transfer roll back and forth over the earlier image.
