H L Richardson was asked to prepare a design similar to the 2s and 3s stamps that depicted King George V as an Admiral of the Fleet. It was recommended, however, that as General Sir Charles Fergusson - a distinguished soldier, had succeeded Viscount Jellicoe as Governor-General, it would be appropriate to depict the King in the uniform of a Field Marshall. The design was engraved by Waterlow and Sons, London. The stamp was in production from 1926-1935.
