- A red #10 Wales rugby shirt, worn by Ian Lewis vs. Canada in Toronto in 1973.
A hugely rare piece of Welsh rugby history. Wales match-issue shirts rarely appear for sale - especially those from the coveted golden era of the 70s.
Incredibly unusual: Wales wore squad numbers for this fixture, rather than the usual 1-15.
Lewis wore the shirt as an unused substitute in the match. He also likely wore it in action during the four matches of Wales' Canada tour against club and regional opposition.
Features the Welsh crest and the words "CANADIAN TOUR 1973".
Wales won the game 58-20 at the Varsity Stadium, Toronto on June 9, 1973. Wales were unbeaten in all five games of the tour, scoring 288 points and conceding just 44.
The shirt has some fading to the chest area and some small holes.
Fly-half Ian Lewis (1948-) is Bridgend's record points scorer. In addition to touring Canada with Wales in June 1973, Lewis was a substitute for Wales' 1972 game against New Zealand and the 1973 Five Nations championship. Lewis also represented Wales at the World 7s.
