Roy Lichtenstein's Two Nudes to lead Modern and Contemporary Prints sale

A print of Roy Lichtenstein's Two Nudes (1994) is valued at £100,000-150,000 ($161,620-242,430) ahead of a sale of Modern and Contemporary Prints at Dreweatts and Bloomsbury.

The coloured relief print, one of an edition of 12 artist's proofs, will auction in London on December 11.

The Nudes series was the last of Lichtenstein's (1923-1997) large-scale projects, which he began early in 1993 and subsequently explored through drawings, collages, paintings and prints.

The six screen prints in the series are among the largest that he ever produced.

The highest price for a work by Lichtenstein was set at Christie's Postwar and Contemporary Evening Sale in New York in April of this year, realising $56.1m.

La Guerre des Trous (circa 1914), an ink drawing by Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson (1889-1946) valued at £80,000-120,000 ($129,448-194,172), depicts soldiers preparing to leave their trench.

Nevinson was stationed on the western front for a short time between 1914 and 1915, and was deeply disturbed by his experiences there.

Initially associated with the futurist movement, his later works dispense with abstract techniques in favour of stark realism.

A lithograph titled Banking from 4,000 Feet (1917) holds the artist's auction record. It achieved £95,000 ($153,539) at Sotheby's London last year.
