A handwritten letter from Evelyn Waugh to the girlfriend of the man who would elope with his wife is valued at £1,000-1,500 ($1,680-2,521) ahead of a sale at Bonhams London.
It's written as a response to a party invitation and reads: "I, alas, am less free as I am chained hand & foot to this novel I am writing - a welter of sex and snobbery, - I hope I shall have it finished by the middle of July in which case I shall love to visit you.

"Would you think it intolerably casual and altogether like the beastly people in the book I am writing, if I ask you to let me leave it open?"
The book he refers to is Vile Bodies, which was directly influenced by the breakup of his marriage.
We have this signed copy of Virginia Woolf's Orlando: A Biography - another classic novel of the jazz age.
