We're drawing ever closer to RM Auction's sale at The Inn at St John's in Plymouth, Michigan. Saturday July 30 will see some of the world's top classic car collectors converge on the event, which is held in conjunction with the prestigious Concours d'Elegance of America.
We've already told you about some of the amazing automobiles on offer, such as the unique Plexiglas Pontiac Deluxe Six 'Ghost Car'. But RM keeps upping the ante, and news of more remarkable additions appears every day.
One of the most impressive lots is the 1932 Packard Twin Six Individual Custom Convertible Sedan. One of only two models ever built, the car was custom-made for the celebrated American entertainer Al Jolson for the huge Depression-Era sum of $6,600. It will appear on the auction block with a pre-sale estimate of $950,000 - $1.15 million.
Jolson was known as 'The World's Greatest Entertainer', and his famous film roles (including the world's first full length 'talkie' The Jazz Singer) led him to become one of Hollywood's most wealthy celebrities. He used his fortune to develop a stunning car collection, and this 1932 Packard was one of the finest in his garage.

It features a 12-cylinder engine, and a number of luxury accessories such as twin side-mounted spares with metal covers, chrome wire wheels and the very desirable split windshield. It also features coachwork by the legendary Dietrich Inc, one of the world's most respected and influential designers of the classic era.
The car has an impeccable provenance, and can be traced from Jolson to its current owner. Records show that the car was fully restored by the collector Harold Crosby, who purchased the vehicle in 1960 and exhibited it at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it won Best in Class in 1963.
The car has remained with the same owner for the past 39 years, meaning few have even had the chance to see it, let alone drive it. And with its combination of rarity, provenance and outstanding condition, the car looks certain to attract a buyer with an eye for the spectacular.
