A special-adapted handbag holder in the rear, lambswool rugs, and its still functioning security lighting controls fitted to the ashtray indicate the important nature of the car's owners. Used on journeys to and from Buckingham Palace, the Queen and Prince Philip would also drive the vehicle themselves around the Windsor estate.

Royal cars have a habit of causing a stir at auction. A 1980s Daimler Majestic V8 used by the Queen in the 1980s sold for an unspecified sum at a Peter Ratcliffe sale in 2010, while George VI's Lanchester made £29,325 ($45,500) at Bonhams in 2009.
A 1994 Aston Martin Virage Volante once used by Prince Charles auctioned for £119,100 ($185,500) at Bonhams last year.
A 3.8 litre 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster was the top lot of the weekend's sale, achieving £100,800 ($157,027) against a £90,000 high estimate.
A 1934 Alvis Speed 20 SB Vanden Plas Drop Head Coup also performed well. It made £95,200 ($148,293), comfortably up on its £85,000 high valuation.
