5) Babe Ruth 1932 World Series New York Yankees Jersey - $940,000
This New York Yankees jersey worn by Babe Ruth was first sold privately in 1991 for $150,000. It was sold again in 1999 for $284,000.
Later, research indicated that the jersey originated from the 1932 World Series, driving the price up even higher when it sold for $940,000 in June 2005.
4) Babe Ruth New York Yankees contract - $996,000
This five-page agreement shows the terms by which Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee agreed to sell the services of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. The agreed price was $100,000 to be paid in four annual instalments between 1919 and 1922.

The contract was sold for $996,000 by Sotheby's New York in June 2005.
3) Babe Ruth Louisville Slugger bat - $1.26m
This Louisville Slugger bat was used by Babe Ruth to hit the first home run at the Yankee Stadium on its grand opening on April 18 1923.

The bat sold for $1.26m in 2004 at a Sotheby's auction in New York.
2) Honus Wagner 1909 - 1911 T206 card - $2.8m
The most expensive baseball card in the world is the Honus Wagner 1909-1911 T206 card.A PSA 8 graded example of the card, thought to be the highest-graded example in the world, was bought by Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick for $2.8m.
1) Mark McGwire's 70th home run ball - $3m
The most expensive item of baseball memorabilia ever sold at auction is the baseball hit by Mark McGwire for his 70th home run in a single season in 1998.
The ball was purchased by comic book creator Todd Macfarlane for just over $3m in 1999.
