A rare Lincoln 6c stamp from the 1880 Special Printing has seen the top bids at this year's APS StampShow, held on August 21-24 in Connecticut.

With Regency Superior the official auctioneer of the show, the 6c Lincoln stamp received top bids of $34,000.
The 1880 Special Printing came after the American Bank Note Company acquired the Continental Bank Note Company in 1879 and decided to reissue the previous series with slight changes to the colour, design and paper.
Printed on soft, porous paper and without gum as issued, the example at auction has a natural straight edge to the right and is in fine condition.
The second highest bids of the sale were received by a 1914 Numeral Issue 50c carmine lake, which was described by the auction house as "an exceptional example of this difficult stamp, one of the nicest we've seen."
As well centred as any of the issue, and in extremely fine condition, it made $11,500 - matching the catalogue price given for the stamp.
Also selling was a rare top margin plate block of six from the 1909 Washington 50c violet issue, which boasted full original gum with just a trace of hinging. It sold for $8,000.
