A sentry box that stood outside Buckingham Palace has realised £15,000 ($24,786) at Bonhams London - an increase of 114.2% on a £7,000 ($11,487) estimate.

It sold as part of the Gentleman's Library auction on January 29.

The sentry box was used by palace guards to shelter from the rain

It would have been used by soldiers sheltering from the rain while on guard duty, and was in operation at the palace up until it was decommissioned in 1992.

After this time it was gifted to Sir Blair Stewart Wilson - a former army officer and member of the royal household.

We have a range of royal memorabilia available to purchase.
