Young Queen Elizabeth's gown achieves 33% increase on estimate

A gown worn by a young Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) has sold for £2,000 ($3,391), a 33.3% increase on its £1,500 ($2,543) estimate.

The lot headlined a sale of royal memorabilia at Reeman Dansie in Colchester, UK on June 24.

Queen Elizabeth gown
The dress was presented to Kathleen Ward, a staff member at Clarence House

It's a floral patterned number in pink and was given by Queen Elizabeth to Kathleen Ward, a telephone operator at Clarence House, during the early 1960s.

Ward later featured in an article in a 1961 edition of Women's Own magazine titled "How I Came to Wear the Queen's Gown", a copy of which accompanied the dress.

We have a range of royal memorabilia available.
