Fine wines have one again been labeled a great investment by the press, this time by respected UK newspaper The Times.
According to The Times' report, Swiss economists Jean-Philippe Weisskopf and Philippe Masset found that that value of Bordeaux wines bought at auction rose by 198% between 1996 and 2009.
Of those, the best, premier cru, appreciated by 447%.
And although Italian and American wines "did not do quite so well," they still performed better than US equities.
The findings of the new study - along with a growing 'thirst' for collectible fine wines in China and Russia - signal the ever-growing popularity of fine wines among collectors and investors.
Meanwhile, excited wine enthusiasts across the globe await the 2009 Bordeaux, mooted as the "best Bordeaux wine in 60 years."
