The Macallan's 1938 is a particularly sought after bottling, renowned for its light taste despite maturity

Starring in the Rare & Collectable Whisky, Wine and Port Auction on May 14, the collection will be led by a £3,000-4,000 ($5,085-6,780) bottle of the beloved brand's 1938 single malt.

"The owner had a cafe in San Casciano, Tuscany and over a period of 50 years he gradually acquired bottle after bottle for his restaurant," McTear's Stephen McGinty told the Spirits Business.

The Italian collector was reportedly given his first bottle by his father following the second world war, kick-starting the lifelong love affair.

The second highest valued bottle is another of the coveted 1938, this time estimated at £2,500-3,500 ($4,237-5,933) and complete with its original presentation box.

Limited edition and special bottlings are sure to attract attention, with a bottle produced especially for the Raffles Hotel in Singapore valued at £1,000-2,000 ($1,695-3,390). An Edinburgh Crystal decanter of The Macallan-Glenlivet 40 Year Old shares an identical estimate.

Also featuring is one of the most collectible bottles produced by Macallan, the limited edition created for the 35th anniversary of satirical magazine Private Eye. It is estimated to sell for £800-1,000 ($1,356-1,695).
