Hugely rare deluxe version of the desirable first edition
- A highly rare and sought-after first deluxe edition of Winnie-the-Pooh, published in 1926 by Methuen.
This exquisite deluxe edition was part of a limited print run of 3,000 copies, issued in three leather-bound variants: red, blue, and green (1,000 each). The green leather binding, as seen here, is particularly desirable, as it closely matches the trade edition's cloth cover.
Exceptionally scarce in all conditions. The binding remains in good order in this near fine example - making the book a true rarity among surviving copies.
The cover features gilt decorations, while the page edges are gilded to protect against dust.
Comes in its original publisher's box - a rare and hugely desirable feature that adds value.
Illustrated throughout by Ernest H. Shepard, this edition preserves the original charm of A.A. Milne’s beloved classic.
Measuring 130 x 190 x 13mm, the book contains 158 pages.
Jeane (1892-1976) and Gerald Petherick's (1887-1946) bookplate adorns the endpaper, indicating they were the book's first custodians. Red crayon mark to pastedown.
The first edition of Winnie-the-Pooh was printed in October 1926, following the success of Milne’s earlier work, When We Were Very Young (1924). The deluxe edition, offered at a higher price, was produced in limited numbers, making fine-condition copies extremely scarce.
A truly superb and highly collectible example of this beloved literary treasure, cherished by collectors and fans of classic children's literature worldwide.
